Where does keratin come from?

Keratin is a protein naturally present in our bodies, notably in our nails, teeth and hair. It accounts for around 90% of hair structure, giving it strength, elasticity and protection against external aggressors.

The different forms of keratin

There are two main types of keratin: α (alpha) keratin and β (beta) keratin. The former is found mainly in hair and body hair, while the latter is found mainly in nails and feathers. Both forms of keratin are made up of polypeptide chains twisted together to form a strong, stable helix.

The benefits of keratin-based skincare products
